Different types of anxiety

Different types of anxiety disorders –

By far I am not trained in mental health or work in the mental health sector but I want to help get rid of the stigma by trying to raise awareness of mental health illnesses. Today I’m going to talk about the different types of anxiety disorders, which there are quite a few different disorders which you may or may not have heard about before which are associated with anxiety disorders.

There are 5 different types of anxiety disorders which are –

  • Generalised anxiety disorder.
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
  • Panic disorder
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Social phobia or social anxiety disorder.

All of these disorders are associated with anxiety, Anxiety is a sense of fear and feeling worried sometimes something might make this worse or sometimes it will just be brought about something little in which you can’t control.

Generalised anxiety disorder-

A generalised anxiety disorder is like I said above a sense of fear and feeling worried, sometimes something might make this worse or sometimes it will just be brought about by something little in which you can’t control could.

There is a difference between just feeling anxious and having an anxiety disorder, if you are feeling anxious maybe about having an exam these feelings are a part of your daily life.Whereas if you have an anxiety disorder the fear and worried feeling doesn’t just go away these are normally there permanently and normally interfere with daily tasks. The worry and fear could effect your personal health, work and your social life. People who are suffering from a generalised anxiety disorder might be restless, fatigue, can’t concentrate and have sleep problems and have anxiety attacks plus other factors.

This is one type of Anxiety disorder in which I can talk about through experience as I suffer from a generalised anxiety disorder and definitely now what it feels like to feel anxious every single day without a break from it. Like I said before I’m not a medical professional but I can talk from personal experience.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) –

An obsessive-compulsive disorder also known as OCD is a disorder which normally lasts a long time and can be seen as chronic. People who suffer from an obsessive-compulsive disorder will occur thoughts which will constantly be there and will display behaviours which will reappear within specific actions in which they can not control. When we are talking about different traits of behaviours we’re talking about maybe obsessions with germs and things may have to be in correct orders, these signs may not be displayed within everyone who suffers from an obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Each person who suffers with a mental health illness will suffer differently.

No two are the same.

Panic disorder –

A panic disorder might be seen in an individual who also suffers with an anxiety disorder. People who have panic disorders will have panic attacks which will occur unexpected and they cannot normally do anything about it. A panic attack for people who do not know what a panic attack is, it is an intense fear and worry which will occur out of the blue and can become worse quickly. These panic attacks can be brought about by a situation or person or event. When an individual is experiencing a panic attack they will experience heart palpitations, sweating, trembling and shortness of breath plus others.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) –

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a disorder which will develop in an individual who has experienced an event which can be scary or dangerous. After an individual experiences a traumatic experience they are bound to feel fear and be worried, but someone who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder will experience the fear and worry for a long time and situations or events may make the individual worry more and panic, but the individual may not be in a situation and the fear may come back. People will also experience flashbacks, bad dreams and may stay away from specific situations events or objects.

Social anxiety disorder (social phobia) –

A social anxiety disorder is another anxiety disorder which is generally to do with fear of situations which include social events, performance situations such as concerts or just generally going in public. When an individual is suffering from a social anxiety disorder they will avoid situations which include social situations because they think people will judge how they are behaving which can lead to them feeling embarrassed.

These anxiety disorders can occur in anyone female or male but also any age range. If you are diagnosed with one of these disorders I just want you to know that you are not alone and it is not your fault.

If you are suffering from any of these please go and see your GP/Doctor and they should be able to help you because you shouldn’t have to feel that you have to struggle with your disorder on your own. Please keep this in mind !!

Love your posts by the way – not writing this comment to be a dick, just sharing my knowledge on the subject. xx

Very well put together! I used to think all of these were just excuses, but after seeing for myself and experiencing it I realized it’s not made up and very real. Thank you for explaining this so well!
