So it’s my next part of my mental health awareness month, this weeks blog post is all about getting help with your mental health, a lot of people still don’t like accepting help or getting help with there mental health. In my opinion I think there are several different reasons why people don’t like getting help and one of the reasons for me is people are scared about what people will think of you if you accept help but it definitely isn’t a bad thing we all need to accept help sometimes and that isn’t a bad thing.
Why should I get help?
Some people might be questioning whether to get help with there mental health and the answer to that question is if you are questioning whether to get help then there must be something going on if your thinking about getting the help. In a lot of cases, there might be other factors in which is stopping you make the decision on whether to seek support.
Some people just in plain English do not like asking for help because they are independent and feel like they are being stupid or being a burden. You are not stupid and you are not a burden, your mental health is more important than anything and your state of wellbeing. I know itโs hard sometimes trying to ignore people, but there not the ones in your situation and if they can make fun of you for needing help then there little and pathetic, not worth your thinking about. Other people may not like to ask for help because of feeling and being embarrassed and you know what that isnโt a problem we all feel a little bit embarrassed sometimes but we have to get over that and help ourselves, just think your health is important !!
โPeople don’t feel comfortable getting mental health care, necessarily, because they’re worried that their friends are going to think they’re unstable or they’re crazy.โ
Where you can get help with your mental health
There are several different services which can help you with your mental health, that is why they are there so use them! Some services in which you could visit and talk to are –
โMind – the mind is a charity which is run in England and Wales. Within there charity they are trying to raise awareness of mental health illness and they think that no one should have to struggle alone. They help people every single day. If you are struggling with your mental health then get in touch with them on 0300 123 3393 or at mind.org.uk
โDoctor/GP – when thinking of seeking help it is best to start off at your local doctors/GP as they can help with making a diagnosis and help you get the support you need.
โFamily – if you do not feel comfortable talking to your doctor then maybe talk to your family, they will support you and listen to you.
โFriends – your friends are another great support network
โ Therapist – if you go and see your doctor/GP they can refer you to see a trained therapist. Sometimes you can find your own trained therapist and contact them yourselves.
โ Community support services – If you have a mental health disorder which is long lasting then your doctor/GP might help you get in touch with a mental health service which can help you more. Some of the services included are social care services, crisis resolution and home treatment teams.
Why getting help is important?
When thinking of your mental health you should seek help, getting help for your mental health is important. One of the most important things you will do today for several reasons, getting help with your mental health will help improve your state of mind because at the moment you might be thinking that you no longer actually want to exist but it shouldnโt be like that, this is your mental illness talking, not you. Once you seek help you will learn more about your mental health illness you are suffering with and how to deal with it and who can actually help you. But added to that you will learn how to think more positive and be able to enjoy your life.

Thank you for sharing the different places to go to get help. I know many people don’t ask for help because of the stigma surrounding certain conditions or diagnoses. I hope more people ask for help and see that so many others are going through a similar journey. I also think it is important to note that if you try getting help somewhere and it is not helpful or you feel uncomfortable, go somewhere else!

I love this post! I personally know what it feels to feel ashamed for seeking out help & feeling like thereโs something wrong with you, getting a psychiatrist and the help I needed has improved my life so much & now everytime someone tells me how they feel the first thing I tell them is to seek help bc it will change their whole lives forever!

Such a beautiful blog! People should take care of themselves irrespective of their mental health. Because if they’ll not prioritize themselves first they can’t give in into other relationships.

Is really is terrible that there such a bad stigma surrounded those suffering with mental health and I wished it didnt steer us all from seeking help but being in such a judgmental world. I’m finding it very difficult seeking help at the moment – I’m actually in a battle with Mental Health Services and Autism Services with my MP involved because MH decided that they “weren’t trained in how to talk to Autistic people” the second they got confirmation of my Autism dx (conveniently ignoring the part about needing ongoing MH support for my co-morbids).
It may be worth adding that some NHS counselling services allow you to self-refer if you want to skip the GP and a lot of work places include a 24/7 helpline for if you are struggling.

Some people are so ashamed to seek help in the beginning and Iโll never fully understand why. Mental Health is just as important as physical health. People wouldnโt dismiss broken bones but itโs also important not to dismiss broken minds either! ๐ great post!
